Jun 21, 2017 · I have a 1967 Ford 3000 diesel with a 540 live PTO. Recently I was cutting with a rotary cutter and noted that my tractor was being pushed even when I pushed the clutch in. This only happened when the PTO was engaged and attached to the rotary cutter. I have used the same cutter in the past without this problem. After the tractor came to a stop I released the clutch and the tractor did not move. The hi/low shifter feels like it will go into high and neutral but not into low. Anyways, no matter where I move the hi/low lever the tractor will not move. This is a 1971 Ford 4000 diesel with a 8 speed transmission. I have also read certain models requiring 6 quarts. :banghead3 Also, there are two different size filters. One holds a quart, the other holds 2.Take an old spark plug and open the gap to 1/4". Then hook it to a spark plug wire to it and ground the plug body to the engine. Turn the engine over and look at your spark. You should see a bright, bluish- white spark that will easily jump the 1/4" gap. I am going to replace the thermostat in my 3000 when I flush it out. The I & T shop manual says use a 188 degree thermostat with 7psi radiator cap. The book also says I can go with a 160,168, or 178 degree thermostat but 188 is recommended.
